Desta Provisions exists to create pathways for others to access essential counseling services at no cost or reduced rates.

Desta Provisions Sunshine Logo

Desta Provisions, formerly No Ordinary Love, was founded in 2011 by Jimmy and Rachel Gross. The nonprofit organization began its grassroots efforts in Addis Ababa (meaning "New Flower"), Ethiopia, and became renowned for reuniting lost children with their families across the country. Like No Ordinary Love's mission to impact underserved individuals, families, and communities, Desta Provisions aims to create pathways to access essential counseling services for people who otherwise can't afford them, helping these individuals reclaim joy and live life to the fullest.

Essential counseling services include: immediate, short-term help for individuals experiencing acute emotional distress or mental health emergencies, individual, couples, family, and group counseling on a consistent basis, evaluations to identify mental health conditions and determine appropriate treatment plans, and more.

Your donation to Desta Provisions supports Desta Therapy's mission to help others reclaim joy and live life to the fullest and is 100% tax deductible.

Jimmy and Rachel Gross

Jimmy and Rachel met in Austin, Texas and married in 2000. After living in many areas of Texas for Jimmy's career, they moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with their small children and formed No Ordinary Love, a U.S. nonprofit organization which provided a wide range of services to underserved children, adolescents, and adults. Their organization became known globally for their child reunification program.

After living in Ethiopia, the Gross family moved to Amman, Jordan where they continued No Ordinary Love’s work, Rachel studied Arabic, and Jimmy managed a British charity using capoeira to help war-traumatized children and adolescents.

After several years of living abroad, the Gross family moved back to Texas where Jimmy provided healthcare for the homeless community in Dallas and managed a rehabilitation facility during the pandemic.

In 2021, they relocated to San Antonio where Jimmy worked as Executive Director of a mental health company. During this time, he recognized the critical need for exceptional client care and employee well-being. This inspired Jimmy and Rachel to create Desta Therapy, resume their much-loved nonprofit - now Desta Provisions - and impact others with "desta" - joy.

Remembering No Ordinary Love

From 2011 - 2019, No Ordinary Love provided food, water and sanitization for families, extended spiritual support, created two transition houses, provided jobs for dozens of Ethiopians, counseled children and families, administered free medical care, created income generating activities for men and women, hosted dozens of international teams, and most astonishingly - returned over 700 missing children back with their families with very little technology or resources.

Jimmy and Rachel are forever grateful that their family, alongside a devoted Ethiopian team, was able to take part in such extraordinary work. They will never forget the generosity of their family and all the friends of No Ordinary Love for making their dream a reality.
